Paddy Coffey

Date of Passing:

August 20, 2022

Paddy Coffey, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday August 20, 2022, at Grace Barker Nursing Home in Warren.

She is survived by her adoring and beloved husband of 64 years, Jerry Coffey. Besides her husband, she is also survived by her daughter Maura (husband Jim Lamonde), her son John (partner Chris Malpass) and daughter Megan (husband Charles Gumkowski). Her precious grandchildren Wyatt, Sean, Aislinn, Molly, Emma, Matthew, the late Seamus, and cherished great grandchildren Brayden, McKenleigh, Charlotte, Lila, and Levi.

She is predeceased by her parents Pete & Molly O’Grady and sisters Ann O’Brien & Eileen McGinn.

Born and raised in Barrington, RI, Paddy spent 38 years as a resident of Touisset, Warren and enjoyed her winter home of over 20 years at Kelly Greens, Ft. Myers, FL. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy Bay View, class of 1954. Her first job was in the office of Dr. James McCaffery on the East Side of Providence. In 1958, she helped her husband start his tennis court construction business, JG Coffey Co. She was the one that talked to customers, made sure all the office work was done, as well as ensured everything ran smoothly each day.

Paddy was an avid tennis player, artist, and golfer. She loved painting and created beautiful artwork and her green thumb created a beautiful landscape at her homes in Touisset and Barrington. She and Jerry were members of the Ida Lewis Yacht Club and spent many years sailing their boat Coffey Break on Narragansett Bay and coastal New England. Their daughter Megan joined them each year for the annual summer cruises. Over the years, they sailed to south Long Island and as far north as Maine. She was a member of the Touisset Point Community Club, The University Club and Kelly Greens Golf & Country Club. In later years she was a tour guide at the John Brown House in Providence.

Paddy valued her faith greatly and even when away, Jerry made sure he found a mass they could attend, even if it meant hitching a ride from a stranger.

Her love of life and giving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and volunteers of Grace Barker Health, The Willows and Continuum Hospice & Palliative Care of RI for their dedication and support.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Calling Hours in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside on Wednesday August 31, 2022 from 4-6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday September 1, 2022 in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
