Patricia Anne Carbone, 68 of Barnstable, Mass. and formerly of Barrington, RI passed away on Sunday March 15, 2015 from complications due to Pancreatic Cancer.

Pat was born in Oceanside, CA on February 4, 1948. She grew up in Alexandria, VA and spent summers on the Walker family farm in Culpepper, VA taking care of the horses and helping with farm chores.

She leaves behind a brother, George Layton and a sister, Colette Nelson. She attended St. Mary’s Academy High School in Alexandria, VA. She earned her real estate license for RI and MA. Pat was married to Tony Carbone in 1993.

Early in her career, Pat worked for the Department of the Army in Washington, D.C. Then, she worked as a stay at home mom for several years. After moving to Rhode Island, she worked for Child & Little Real Estate and T.R. Little Real Estate as a real estate agent and Office Manager.

Pat loved nature and enjoyed spending time outside landscaping, walking on the beach, fishing and gardening. Pat was especially fond of birds and took care of the many birds, squirrels, chipmunks and anything else that wandered into her yard. She made sure that water and food were always plentiful so her feathered friends would thrive. This even included feeding a flock of more than ten wild turkeys that would visit each fall. Pat was a talented artist and over the years created beautiful paintings, drawings and keepsake boxes for others. She passed this passion and talent for art onto her grandchildren. Pat was an avid fan of all the New England sports teams and never missed a Patriots or Red Sox game on television. She proudly cheered the Patriots to four Superbowl wins during her lifetime. In her free time, Pat volunteered for the Cape Wildlife Center, which provides care to injured wildlife. When her children St. were young, she coached her daughter’s softball team and attended countless soccer games and cross country/track meets to watch her children compete. She loved reading, listening to Irish music, swimming and tennis.

She is survived by her husband, Tony Carbone of Barnstable, MA, her son, David Mainella and his wife, Felicia Mainella of Moseley, VA; her daughter Kristin Mainella and her partner Yvonne Korrey of Londonderry, NH ; her stepson John Carbone and his wife, Sonya of Coventry, RI; her stepdaughter Melissa Carbone Soares and her husband Jeff Soares of Swansea, MA.

She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 2 grand-dogs; Keira Mainella, Kennedy Mainella, Sawyer Mainella, Samantha Soares, Caleb Carbone, Kylee Carbone, Anisah Carbone, Jaden Carbone, Trinity Carbone and Colton Carbone. They will remember ‘Grammy’ as someone who instilled in them a passion for nature, a love of animals and a spirit of creativity.

Pat was extremely thankful for her very close friends, particularly Nancy and Sully Sullivan. She loved her furry friends and leaves behind Daisy and Samantha, whom she rescued.

She was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth Layton and her father, Winston H. Layton. She was also predeceased by her beloved dogs Heidi and Ginger and her cats Tigger, Pheobe and Victoria.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday March 21, 2015 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m.. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Cape Wildlife Center, Dept.
