Peter A. Acciardo

Acciardo, Peter, A., 83, of Rogers Avenue, died peacefully on February 8, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Anna (Gincastro) Acciardo.

A lifelong resident of Barrington, he was the son of the late Pietro and Angela (Sanantonio) Acciardo.

Mr. Acciardo was a truck driver for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation for 26 years before retiring in 1985. He previously was a landscaper.

Peter was a communicant of Holy Angel Church and a member of the Barrington Democratic Club and the Rhode Island State Employees Golf League. An avid golfer, he received numerous Rhode Island State Golfing awards. As a young man he enjoyed caddying at Rhode Island Country Club and was a friend and follower of Brad Faxon’s golfing career. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtic, Rhode Island Reds and Rocky Marciano fan.

Mr. Acciardo was a devoted follower of his grandson’s athletic events and their achievements.

Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by his loving son; Peter D. Acciardo and his devoted wife Lorenzina ‘Lori’ Acciardo of Barrington, two sisters; Louise Tamburro of Barrington and Theresa George of Barrington and two grandsons; David P. Acciardo and his fianc Diana Gallo and Stephen F. Acciardo, both of North Providence. He was the brother of the late Frank V., Albert, Anthony and John Acciardo.

His funeral will be held on Saturday February 13, 2010 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angel Church, Maple Avenue, Barrington at 10 am. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road, Barrington.
