Mercure, Richard D., 97, of Tockwotton on the Waterfront, East Providence, died peacefully on July 5, 2023 at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He celebrated over 73 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Irene (Couturier) Mercure. They were an inseparable, complementary, and adorable couple.

Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Donat and Ida (Letourneau) Mercure, he lived in East Providence for over 30 years.

Richard proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. Richard earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Johnson & Wales University Class of 1981 after years of attending school at night while working full time and caring for his family.

Richard was a quality control engineer for several companies, including, Electric Boat General Dynamics, Northrup Grumman, and Collyer Wire. He worked as an independent contractor toward the end of his career to ensure the wires for use on Air Force planes and Navy submarines were manufactured to specifications.

He enjoyed golfing, traveling, walking, and spending time with his loving family. A sports enthusiast, he was a devoted New England sports fan. He found the greatest joy in cheering for his children and grandchildren in their sporting endeavors.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Diane Isabella; a sister, Claire Champagne; seven grandchildren, Christopher Harrison, Scott Harrison, Danielle Mercure, Kathryn Harrison, Kevin Mercure, Michelle Mercure, and Ryan Mercure; and a dozen great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Richard Mercure.

His Funeral will be held on Friday July 14, 2023 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

    He was a great man and I’m glad I got all the good memories and times we had as a family.
