Damiani, Richard Michael, 76, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, encircled by family, after a brave and fearless 27-month-long battle with lung cancer.

He leaves his devoted wife, June (Guay) Damiani; his beloved daughter, Dana D’Orsi and her husband, Michael; his cherished grandchildren, Sophia Jennie and Ryan Richard; his brother, Armando ‘Mandy’ Damiani; his sister, Lillian Estrella; 13 nieces and nephews; and many close friends. He was also the youngest brother of the late Louis, Anthony, Salvatore, Joseph and Angelo Damiani, Sr.

Born and raised in Providence, the son of Angelo and Girolama ‘Jennie’ (Giglio) Damiani, he was a lifelong resident of Riverside. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 21. In his early years, ‘Richie’ fixed TVs before discovering his true passion for repairing dry cleaning equipment and later launching ‘Richard’s Machine.’

‘The Deacon’ was known for being an avid walker, an engaging and inspiring storyteller, and a proud father and ‘papa.’ He was surrounded by a circle of love and support in his final days ‘ for which his family will forever be grateful.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avnue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Ave., Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
