Robert D. Winston

Winston, Robert D., 76, of Hatton Street, East Providence, died peacefully on Saturday April 9, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Dianne J. (Russell) Winston.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Robert H. Hazard Sr. and Dolores M. Winston, he lived in East Providence for 23 years previously residing in Barrington.
Mr. Winston was a Chef at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Home, Bristol for over 25 years before retiring in 2019.
Robert was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Riverside Legion Post #10 where he served as Past Commander as well as holding numerous other offices. He also served as the Department of Rhode Island American Legion Commander holding the title of Past NECman.
Robert enjoyed fishing, sitting by the water with his wife and spending time with his loving family, friends and fellow veterans.
Besides his wife of 36 years, he is survived by three daughters, Alishia Marasco of Central Falls, Donna Rumery of East Providence and Holly Marasco of East Providence; four grandchildren, Deanna Marasco, Dennis Andrade, Michael Brown and Julia Medeiros; four brothers, Robert, Dennis and Frank Hazard and Wayne Freitas; two sisters, Denise Rodriguez and Sandra Boulanger; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Alvin Freitas.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday April 14, 2022 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m. with a Committal Service in the North Burial Ground Cemetery, Branch Avenue, Providence at 12:30 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Robert’s memory to The Little Rhody Boys State, P.O. Box 114028, North Providence, RI, 02911 would be deeply appreciated.

The members of The American Legion, Balfour-Cole Post 64, mourn the loss of our departed comrade. We were honored to know him and to serve with him. We thank him for his service to our country and offer our sincere condolences to his family.
Daddy I’m relieved to know your pain is gone. But the pain I feel not having you with me will never go away. I’ll miss our talks, our banter and those daddy looks you’d give me. Everything you’ve taught me has brought me through some of the hardest times and I’m leaning on your strength now. From day one you took me under your wing.
