Gallagher, Roberta, L., 95, of One Evergreen Drive, formerly of North Scituate, died peacefully on February 6, 2011.

Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Matthew J. and Winifred (Coyle) Gallagher, she lived in East Providence for nine years and North Scituate since 1966.

Miss Gallagher was a registered nurse at Rhode Island Hospital, where she was the Director of Volunteers for 26 years before retiring in 1973. She also was an executive secretary for the Etna Insurance Co., Providence for 6 years before retiring in the early 1980’s. She also was a personal assistant at MIT to Dr. George Kistiakowsky (World renowned physicist/Manhattan Project.)

Roberta was a graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and the Katherine Gibbs School, Providence. She also was a radiology technician. She was a volunteer for the Providence Animal Rescue League and enjoyed traveling, especially her trip to Hawaii in the 1940’s, where she resided for two years.

She is survived by her brother; Robert J. Gallagher of Riverside, a sister; Winifred Gallagher of New York City, NY, three nephews; Matthew Gallagher of VA, Robert C. Gallagher of SC and Robert J. Gallagher of Bridgewater, MA and two nieces; Stephanie G. Rooney of Easton, MA and Paula Moore of SC. She was the sister of the late Matthew P. Gallagher.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday February 12, 2011 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 11 am. Burial will follow in Mount St. Mary Cemetery.
