Matthews, Robley, K., 79, of Adams Point Road, died peacefully on September 30, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Lee (Otto) Matthews.

Born in Dallas, TX, a son of the late Robley D. and Ruby (Knight) Matthews, he lived in Barrington for 50 years.

Dr. Matthews was a professor of Geological Sciences at Brown University for 35 years before retiring in 1999.

Robley was a graduate of Rice University where he received his Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees.

Dr. Matthews was a member of the Geological Society of America and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and spending time with his loving family.

Besides his wife of 56 years, he is survived by three daughters, Betty Jo Salmeron of Towson, MD, Gretchen Lee Parry of Baltimore, MD and Sandra Ann ‘Sam’ Steiner of Marshfield, WI; a son, Charles Christopher Matthews of Rye, NY and twelve grandchildren.

His funeral will be held on Monday October 5, 2015 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 9 a.m.
