Rocco J. DiMatteo

DiMatteo, Rocco J., 94, formerly of Brow Street, Barrington died on September 19, 2018. He was the husband of the late Eleanor A. (D’Allesandro) DiMatteo.

A lifelong resident of Barrington, he was the son of the late John and Concetta (Giannattasio) DiMatteo.

Mr. DiMatteo was a machinist for the Mobil Oil Company for 40 years before retiring in 1986.

Rocco was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and was a former member of the Barrington DAV. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Montaup Country Club for over 45 years. He invented the ball marking device for golfing.

Mr. DiMatteo was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.

He is survived by his children, Susan O’Donnell of Bristol, Robert DiMatteo and his wife Patricia of Riverside and David DiMatteo and his husband Fabiano Delima M.D. of Boston, MA; a brother, Alphonse DiMatteo of Barrington; three sisters, Rose Lombardi of Warren, Mary Chianese of Seekonk, MA and Irene Ventresca of North Providence; four grandchildren, Kathleen, Kevin, Andrew and Alicia and one great granddaughter, Taylor. He was the brother of the late Anna Mansi, Assunta, Anthony and Carmen DiMatteo.

His funeral will be held on Saturday September 29, 2018 from the
W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Church, Maple Avenue, Barrington at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Santa Maria del Campo Cemetery, Upland Way, Barrington.

Calling hours are Friday 6-8 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Rocco’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 would be deeply appreciated.

    We are thankful for having known your father. It was an amazing friendship we had, full of admiration and fun, because he was a thoughtful and loving man. RIP dear Rocky.
