Rose Patton, of Greenwich Avenue East Providence, valiantly succumbed to pancreatic cancer at her home with her family by her side on July 20, 2015. She is survived by her spouse of nearly 44 years Robert Patton, her daughters Rachelle Abbruzzi and Robyn Patton and their spouses’ Kevin Abbruzzi and James Cunningham. She was the proud and loving Avo (grandmother) to Margaret and Brian Abbruzzi and Claire Cunningham.

Born in New Bedford,MA she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Rose (Moniz) Canha. Rose was the sister of Frank Canha of Fairhaven, MA, Marie Victoria Mendoza of New Bedford, MA, and the late Joseph Canha.

She worked for FW Woolworth in New Bedford, Ma. After moving to East Providence, she briefly continued her employment at Woolworth before becoming a caregiver to several children. Rose’s loving way had a lasting impression on many of these children and they became like an extended family to her. Later in life, Rose was employed at Providence College in the Telecommunication department.

Rose was an immensely talented seamstress. She was also extremely proud of her Madeiran heritage. Rose loved the water and was particularly fond of Martha’s Vineyard Island. She was a communicant of St.Martha’s Church East Providence. Her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family and particularly her grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 25, 2015 at St. Martha’s Church 2595 Pawtucket Avenue East Providence, RI. A Christian Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel will directly follow
