Rose E. Duprat

Date of Passing:

May 4, 2023

Duprat, Rose, 97, formerly of Barrington, Riverside and Westport, MA passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023, the same day her father was born 141 years ago. She was married to the late Roger A. Duprat.

She is survived by her three daughters, Paula Duprat and her husband George Ostler of Sharon VT, Roberta Kern and her husband Thomas of Riverside and Laura Carleu and her husband Greg of Bristol and six grandchildren, Anthony and Alexandra Ostler, Nicholas and Thomas Kern and Olivia and Lillian Carleu. She is also survived by one great granddaughter, Mia Jean Ostler.
Rose was born and raised in Holyoke MA, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Kennedy) Teahan. She attended Holyoke schools along with her older brother George and her younger brother Gerald. After high school Rose worked as a bookkeeper in Holyoke’s textile mills during WWII. She and Roger married on Sept 4, 1948, and were married for 64 years before Roger passed. After they married, they lived in MA and NY before settling in RI, spending many years in Barrington raising their family.

Rose loved to sew, as evidenced by her daughters attending early elementary school in matching dresses and attending high school proms in homemade finery. Rose volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Barrington Women’s Club. Rose and Roger had a decades long friendship with a group from Barrington they referred to as the “Great Eight” sharing many good times and much laughter. One of Rose’s interests later in life was following the Red Sox, she kept their roster by her favorite chair. She attended St. Luke Church while living in Barrington and Saint John the Baptist Church while in Westport.

Rose and Roger built their retirement home in Westport, MA. They loved nothing more than swimming, walking and beachcombing at Elephant Rock Beach. Their children and grandchildren loved spending time in Westport with Rose and Roger.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Luke Church in Barrington followed by burial in Forest Chapel Cemetery also in Barrington. Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Rose’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite #306, Providence, RI 02809 would be deeply appreciated.

  3. Dearest Laura, Robbie and Paula,

I am sorry for your loss.

Your mom was a wonderful woman who led a remarkable and long life.
I had the privilege of getting to know Rose and have fond memories of her and Roger.
From visits in Boston, beach time in Westport, planning Laura’s wedding and baby showers to even orchestrating a bus trip of Laura’s famed guitar for her bachelorette party, Rose was always game to help and support her girls.

Your mom was so blessed to have the love, support and companionship of her daughters during her final years. May she rest in peace.

    Much love,
    Deb
