Kerns, Samuel, J., Jr., ‘Bud’, 92, of Atria Bay Spring, Bay Spring Avenue, died peacefully on November 27, 2015. He was the husband of the late Marie E. (McDonnell) Kerns.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Samuel J. Kerns Sr. and Margaret (McCormick) Kerns, he lived in Barrington for 28 years. He was a graduate of Merrimack College Class of 1954.

Mr. Kerns was a district manager for the Sprague Oil Co. for 15 years before retiring in 1988. He previously was a salesman for the Shell Oil Co.

Samuel was a communicant of St. Luke Church and a member of the parish’s Young at Heart Club, Choir and Parish Council. He also was a C.C.D. teacher and volunteer for the Catholic Charity drives.

Mr. Kerns was a member of the Barrington Republican Town Committee and the Narragansett Bay Chorus. He was a volunteer at Amos House, Providence. He enjoyed golfing and playing hockey as a youth.

Samuel was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen M. Kerns and husband Joseph Sullivan of West Virginia and Margaret A. Mailloux and her husband Charles of Riverside; two sons, Robert S. Kerns and his wife Maura Keenan of Belmont, MA and Timothy J. Kerns and his wife Margaret of Laconia, NH; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late Samuel J. Kerns III.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday December 3, 2015 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday December 4, 2015 in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
