George, Samuel, P., Sr., 96, of Hilton Avenue, Riverside, died peacefully on February 20, 2016. He was the husband of the late Mary V. (Tanury) George.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Peter and Carmel (Zide) George, he lived in Riverside for 65 years.

Mr. George was a Staff Sergeant for the Rhode Island National Guard for 35 years before retiring in 1980. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star, the American Defense Service Metal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the Philipping Liberation Ribbon.

Samuel was a member of the Sons of Italy and the East Providence Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by a son, Samuel P. George Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Riverside; two daughters, Roberta E. Geisser of Billerica, MA and Carmel S. Guertin of Riverside; three sisters, Kay Gereco of San Diego, CA, Marion Davis of Anaheim, CA and Lilly Veader of North Providence; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late George George and Esther Sedach.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday February 25, 2016 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday 4-8 p.m.
