Harris, Samuel R., 98, of Spring Street, Riverside, died peacefully at home on June 26, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Claire G. (Kane) Harris.

Born in Cooleemee, NC, a son of the late Nathan C. and Susan (Curly) Harris, he lived in Riverside for 60 years.

Mr. Harris was an Oil Burner Serviceman for the former Gilbane Oil Co. after completing his service in the United States Navy.

Samuel was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of the United States American Legion Association.

Samuel was a charitable man, who grew tomatoes in his garden and shared them with his neighbors and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his loving family.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon McDaniel of Riverside and Jeanine Estrella of Concord, NC, a brother, Johnny Harris of Pensacola, FL; his grandchildren, Kimberly, James, Wendy, Missy, Jodi, Jeffrey, Donny, Tammy, Amy, Mandy and Heather and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Claire Devon, Kenneth Drape, Lola Ponte and Michele Bryan and grandfather of the late Jason and Robert.

His Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 1, 2022 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 11:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, South County Trail, Exeter. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

  5. To the entire Harris family. We are so sad to hear of Sam’s passing. I have so many fond memories of spending time with the entire Harris family for 60 plus years. I will always remember the laughs and tears over the years spanning over Taylor Ave, Narragansett Ave and Stanton Ave, to mention a few. I’m sure he’s joining in a beer or two with Claire.   8. My Deepest condolences and sympathy to the Harris family. He was a kind and gentleman that had a wonderful talent for growing tomatoes and for making friends. I will miss him and his wonderful smile. Pleasant demeanor and his little dog but most of all his homegrown tomatoes.

  10. To the Harris family. I am so sorry to hear about Sam. Being next door neighbors and knowing and being like part of the family for over 40 yr I always adored Sam. I loved when he would tell Michell and I his stories. Sam had a heart of gold, and would do anything for his family and friends. Fly high with the angels Sam, and tell my best friend Michelle I miss her so much, RIP
