Sarah P. Scarritt Coughlin

Coughlin, Sarah P., (Scarritt), 71, of Burke Road, Bristol, died peacefully on May 23, 2022 at Newport Hospital, Newport, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of John N. “Jack” Coughlin.

Born in New Hartford, NY, a daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Parker) Scarritt, she lived in Bristol for 54 years.

Mrs. Coughlin was a Vocational Counselor for 42 years.

Sarah graduated from Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree. She then went on to earn to Masters Degrees in Theology & Counseling from The Pittsburg Theological Seminary.

Mrs. Coughlin was a member of Mensa International and The Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed animals, especially her dogs.

Besides her husband of 25 years, she is survived by three cousins, William Green of New York, Gary Parker of NY and Ralph Parker of Utah.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday May 29, 2022 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside from 3 to 7 p.m. A family eulogy will be held at 6:30 p.m.

A Graveside Burial will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2022 in the North Burial Ground Cemetery, 1081 Hope Street, Bristol at 2 p.m.

Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Sarah’s memory to the Bristol Animal Shelter, 10 Minturn Farm Road, Bristol, RI, 02809 would be deeply appreciated.

  4. I first met Sarah the fall of 1968 while attending Monmouth College and we remained friends throughout the years. I’ll miss our lengthy phone chats, Sarah. It was always fun reminiscing about our school days. Although I’ll miss you, I’m glad you’re no longer in pain.

    Jack, I’m sending warm hugs to you and please give Hugs and Kisses a treat from me. I’m sure they’re missing their mommy.

  5. Sarah Smile my special name for you. You came into my life with such caring dogs coworkers family. I remember when you and Jack came to Newport to see me that was so meaningful I will really miss you my friend. I hope Rosie was there to greet you at rainbow bridge. ?
