Fredrick, Sophie, (Gouveia), 89, of Elson Drive, Riverside, died unexpectedly on February 1, 2017. She was the wife of the late Paul F. Fredrick.

Born in Fall River, MA, a daughter of the late Joseph and Gabriella (Andrade) Gouveia, she lived in Riverside for 59 years.

Mrs. Fredrick was a graduate of Hope High School Class of 1945.

Sophie was a member of St. Brendan Church since 1958. She was a communicant, Eucharistic Minister, teacher of Religious Education, member of the Forever Young Club and a knitter with the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Brendan’s Church. She was a former member of the Parish’s Rosary & Altar Society.

Mrs. Fredrick was a past President of the East Providence High School P.T.A. She was a member of the East Providence Historical Society and a volunteer for The Tomorrow Fund. She was a member of the East Providence Recreation Department, the East Providence Senior Center, the East Providence Chapter of the New England Cribbage Association and the American Cribbage Congress. She was a former Den Mother for Riverside Pack 4 and Minister of Holy Communion at the former Riverside Nursing Home for 10 years.

She is survived by two sons, Paul F. Fredrick Jr. and his wife Gail of East Providence and Steven C. Fredrick and his partner Diane Birtwell of Pawtucket; two daughters, Elaine A. Fredrick and her husband Steven Gregory of Riverside and Nancy J. Fredrick Isabel of Riverside; a sister, Lillian Gingrich of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph, Johnny, Mary, George, Gabriella, Elizabeth, Edward, Charles, Isabel, Juliana and Alfred.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday February 4, 2017 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
