Perkins, Thomas, Eaton, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, at the R.I. Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Charlotte (Sisson) Perkins.

Born in the Edgewood section of Cranston, he was the son of the late William T. and Mary (Leeman) Perkins. A lifelong Rhode Island resident, he resided in Providence, Riverside, Touissett, East Greenwich and finally Bristol.

Mr. Perkins was the owner-operator of R.E. Sturdy Co, a family plating business originally established in 1868. He retired in 1995 but remained involved in the business until his death. He was a 1942 graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy, where he played both hockey and football.

Tom was a retired United States Navy Lieutenant Commander serving in the Pacific Theatre as a pilot in World War II and also a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve retiring in 1984. He was an avid sports fan, voracious reader and political junkie. He enjoyed his final years at the Veterans Home, where he received exemplary care.

He is survived by his children, Robert, Lloyd and Thomas, all of Riverside and Dorothy Perkins McCauley of Bristol, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William and Joseph Perkins and Dorothy Perkins Franklin. He is also survived by his step-children, Barbara McDonagh, Margaret Black and Elizabeth Gallogly, all of Warwick, Mary Viera of Bristol, Michael Gallogy of Cape Coral, FL and the late James Gallogly.

A private funeral, with Military Honors, was held on Friday, November 25 at the RI Veteran’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the R.I. Veteran’s Home, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI, 02808 would be deeply appreciated. To all that ever knew him he will simply be remembered as a good man. Arrangements are by the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, Riverside.
