Walter L. Newman

Newman, Walter, L., 85, formerly of Lindy Avenue, Riverside, died peacefully on July 8, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Sutton) Newman.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Walter J. and Mary (Farley) Newman, he lived in Riverside for over 50 years and wintered in Vero Beach, FL for 20 years following his retirement.

Mr. Newman was a manager of employee relations for the United States Postal Service for 36 years before retiring in 1985.

Walter was a communicant of St. Brendan Church. He was past President and member of Segregansett Country Club, Taunton, MA and past President of the Riverside Little League and the Riverside Pop Warner Football Association. He was selected as a Rhode Island All-State Hockey player for Central High School.

Mr. Newman was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Newman and her husband Gilbert Medeiros of Riverside; two sons, Walter T. Newman and his wife Donna of Bristol and William Newman and his wife Kathy of North Dighton, MA; ten grandchildren, Caitlin Connor and her husband Derick, Michael Medeiros, Kelly Medeiros, David Newman, Christina Newman Odilov and her husband Sherzod, John Newman, Suzie Newman, Timothy Newman, Patrick Newman and Audrey Newman and two great grandchildren, Angelina and Carmine. He was the brother of the late Raymond V. Newman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday July 13, 2015 in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
