Wayne R. Martin

Date of Passing:

August 10, 2021

Martin, Wayne Robert, a life-long resident of Barrington, RI, passed away unexpectedly on August 10, 2021. He was the beloved husband to Caron (Murgo) for 44 years. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of Yolande (Moreau) Martin and the late Robert Martin.

He was a devoted father to his son Christopher (Beth-Ann) and beloved grandfather to Hazel Quinn (HQ), the apple of his eye.

Wayne was a highly accomplished carpenter whose reputation for expert craftsmanship was widely known and appreciated. He worked for his father and uncle for many years before he took over the family business, Martin Brother’s Construction Company.

Wayne’s many passions included woodworking, fast cars, relaxing at his home in Bridgton, Maine, enjoying a cigar and a “good” stout or porter, fishing on Moose Pond and spending time with his family and friends, but especially being Grampy to HQ. Wayne will be remembered fondly, among other things, for his quick wit, booming voice and wicked sense of humor. All can agree who knew him that Heaven just got a little louder.

Wayne, the oldest of five brothers leaves behind Richard (Kathy) Paul (Doreen), Kevin (Maga), Craig (Judy) and many nieces and nephews

Flowers are respectfully declined. Contributions in Wayne’s name to a favorite charity would be deeply appreciated.

Calling hours will be held in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside on Saturday August 21, 2021 from 1-3 p.m. followed by a Celebration his Life at 3:00pm. The Martin Family is kindly requesting for everyone who is attending Wayne’s Celebration of Life and Calling Hours to please wear a face mask. Burial will be private.

  3. I grew up living next door to the Martin’s from the 1960’s to the 1980’s. You couldn’t have asked for a better neighbor than Wayne Martin. I have many fond memories of hanging out with Wayne playing basketball in the Martin driveway, playing wiffle ball, playing horseshoe’s, and watching and listening as Wayne worked on his Chevy SS or Plymouth Duster in the driveway. He was a really good role model for us younger kids in the neighborhood, and I learned a lot from him. He was a super guy with a super personality, and I’m truly saddened to hear that he has passed away. My condolences and regards to the Martin’s and the Murgo’s.

  6. Dear Martin family it’s with a sad heart that I have to write this note to him “Wayne”. The first night I met/was Introduced to uncle Wayne I was overwhelmed and he holds my hand and told me you either run or you are in with us. I did not run because he holds me and supports me every time I needed to. Uncle Wayne “I’m going to miss our dinner time.” My deepest sympathies to the Murgo and Martin family in this difficult time.
“Con amor para mi viejo querido, Maga Herrera-Martin

  14. Wayne will be missed dearly. He was a lifelong friend.
Living next door, we grew up together sharing many fun times.
Fond memories of playing baseball in his yard, playground and little league, basketball in his driveway all day and night, and hockey on the local ponds and in school.
Will never forget the fun fishing expeditions whether it was riding our bikes when we were kids to the local pond or later in life on some guy trips.
We shared our love for fast cars, always tinkering and attending race events.
Wayne was like a brother, he was always there for me, and his family always welcomed me and was a a big part of my life.
I will always cherish the time I had with Wayne. He was an extremely talented craftsman, but most importantly a great son, husband, father, brother and grandfather.

The world lost a really fine man, and he will never be forgotten.

  27. Been thinking of Wayne since hearing the awful news. An artist as a carpenter, he was also a terrific athlete. Anchored our 4×100 relay team at the Class B’s at Hendricken our sophomore year. Thanks to Wayne, we took second place. Serious wheels! He almost beat the kid from Hope, but later told us all he could think about was not dropping the baton!! Always smile when I think of that day, which I hope we all will when the pain of loss subsides a bit. Love to the Martins and Murgos. ?❤️
