William A. Major

Major, William, A., 90, of Thurston Street, Riverside, died peacefully at home on May 24, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Madeline G. (O’Malley) Major.

A lifelong resident of Riverside he was the son of the late James A. and Grace (Knight) Major.

Mr. Major was a machine operator for Okonite Company for 41 years before retiring in 1986.

William was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II.

Mr. Major was a member of the V.F.W. Post #15041 He enjoyed working on cars with his sons and grandsons and bringing his classic cars to cruise nights where he made many friends. He also loved boating, camping and traveling.

Besides his wife of 69 years, he is survived by three sons, Daniel T. Major of Riverside, George E. Major of Riverside and William D. Major of Seekonk, MA; a daughter, Marguerite L. Major of Riverside; eight grandchildren, Jessica Major and her husband Justin, Melissa, Kristen, Christopher, Daniel, Megan and Mattisen Major and Abbey Haynes and a brother, Robert Major of Florida. He was the father of the late Carol A. Major and brother of the late Grace Viall, James, John and Edward Major.

His funeral will be held on Saturday May 30, 2015 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
