William H. Scannell

Scannell, William, H., ‘Herb’, Jr., 93, of Bay Spring Village, Bay Spring Avenue, Barrington, formerly of Telford Road, died peacefully on March 1, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ellen D. (Dalton) Scannell.
Born in Boston, MA, a son of the late William H. and Catherine F. (Sexton) Scannell, he lived in Barrington for 46 years.
William was a graduate of Boston English High School Class of 1934 and Boston College Class of 1938.
Mr. Scannell was the General Commercial Manager for the former New England Telephone Co. for 34 years before retiring in 1981.
William was a communicant of Holy Angel Church. He was a member of the Hattie Ide Chaffee Home Corporation and a historian of the Massasoit Hook and Ladder Co. of Warren. He was the secretary of the Bristol County Clover Club for 25 years. He enjoyed photography and cabinet making. He also collected antique clocks and watches.
Mr. Scannell was a United States Air Force Veteran serving as a Captain during World War II. He was a Communication Officer in Ondal, India in the 305th Air Service Group as part of the China Burman Indian Theatre of Operations.
Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by two nephews; William H. Scannell IV of New York and Raymond F. Scannell of Tacoma Park, MD and two nieces; Zayda Stewart of Chicago, Illinois and Astrid Long of Bayonne, NJ.
His funeral will be held on Saturday March 6, 2010 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angel Church, Maple Avenue, Barrington at 10 am. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.
