William I.Platt, 89, of Winslow Street died Thursday at the Crestwood Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Kelly) Platt to whom he was married for 57 years.

Born in Providence, a son of the late George A. and Catherine (Trainor) Platt, he had been a long time resident of Riverside. Mr. Platt worked at four railroads as a civil engineer and retired from Providence & Worcester Railroad as a special projects manager. He loved sports and family style cooking. Mr. Platt was active in St. Brendan Church serving as President of the Holy Name Society, Cochairman of the Catholic Charity Drive, member of the Parish Council and as an usher. He was a member of the East Providence Knights of Columbus No. 1528 and was past Faithful Navigator of the Pius X Assembly.

He leaves five daughters, Patricia A. and her husband Charles Hall, Mary Ann Murphy, Kathleen M. West and her husband Warren, Rosemary Platt, Alice Haynes and her husband, Seth; two sons, William M. Platt and David J. Platt; ten grandchildren. He was the father of the late Robert F. Platt and brother of the late George A. Platt, Jr., Gerald J. Platt and Richard A. Platt.

His funeral will be held on Monday August 24, 2015 at 9 AM from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willet Avenue, Riverside with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, 60 Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 AM. Calling Hours Sunday 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Brendan Church will be appreciated. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
