William J. Amberg Sr.

Amberg,Sr. William, J., 89, formerly of Nayatt Road, died peacefully on March 11, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine H. (Hoskins) Amberg.

Born in Newark, NJ, a son of the late Joseph F.W. and Gertrude (Bell) Amberg, he lived in Barrington for 59 years.

Mr. Amberg was the Divisional Merchandise Manager for the former Outlet Department Store for 20 years before retiring in 1982. He also was a tour guide for the Preservation Society of Newport County.

William was a Cum Laude graduate of Seton Hall University Class of 1948. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Amberg was a trustee, communicant and lecturer of St. Luke’s Church and was a member of the parish’s St. Vincent de Paul Society and Parish Council. He was a recipient of the St. Luke’s Church Stewardship Award and was past President of the St. Luke’s Home & School Association.

William was a member of the Executive Committee of the Diocese of Providence Catholic Charity Fund. He was a volunteer for the Barrington Tap-In and enjoyed spending time with his loving family.

He is survived by his children, Marylou Walther of Northampton, MA, William J. Amberg Jr. of Sparta, NJ, Barbara Paulhus of Winter Park, FL, Joan Scotto of Long Beach, NY and Lisa M. Porter of Middletown, DE and nine grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph C. Amberg.

His funeral will be held on Monday March 21, 2016 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke’s Church, Washington Road, Barrington at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
