William J. Hurley

Hurley, William, J., 93, formerly of Viola Avenue, Riverside, died peacefully on November 14, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth K. (Ryan) Hurley.

Born in North Attleboro, MA, a son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Joyce) Hurley, he lived in Riverside for 80 years.

Mr. Hurley was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in the Riverside Post Office Branch for 25 years before retiring in 1983.

William was a lifelong communicant of St. Brendan Church where he was former member of the Parish Council. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Riverside Bishop Hickey Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Hurley was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II.

Besides his wife of 72 years, he is survived by two sons, William F. Hurley and his wife Carol of Warren and Dennis M. Hurley of Riverside; a daughter, Rosemary Giacomini and her husband John of Riverside; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Elizabeth Anne England and Terrance Hurley and brother of the late Maurice Hurley and Doris Kennedy.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday morning November 18 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside from 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in William’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN, 38101 would be deeply appreciated.
